You actually are spoilt for choice when deciding how to spend your time and effort while staying at one of the better Istanbul hotels. Istanbul offers a good amount of choice and you should be sure you spend time planning your day. The diverse history of this city offers up its treasures as well as your most hard decision will be which of those wonderful offerings would be the most readily useful use of your own time.
The architectural wonders of this city are many and i have picked out a few favourites. The Haghia Sophia is a must see; having survived through the Byzantine and the Ottoman Empires and through into the contemporary Turkish Republic it deserves time. It's topped off by what had been the greatest Dome in Europe until Michelangelo took the prize with St Peter's Dome in 1590. Its wedding cake structure is visible from many of the best Istanbul hotels but it is worth a closer try to find its beautiful inside. The harem of the Topkapi Palace with its 18th Century additions is worth a visit along with the Nuruosmaniye Mosque with its wonderful Baroque fountain if your interest is the Baroque. Fans of Art Nouveau should visit the area of Ästiklal Avenue where the embassies that are grand built in this fashion.
Walking and Cruising
Hotels in Istanbul
a great method to get some workout is to walk the walls of the city. Built when Theodosius II (408-450) was on the throne they are the largest Byzantine framework to endure into modern Istanbul; it's quite a walk as the walls stretch for six . 5 kilometres. Another great way to see the city is from one of the commuter ferries which run from Eminönü if you haven't got the energy for a walk. You will be able to see a number of the waterside that is beautiful, parks and palaces that line the banks associated with the Bosphorus without having to pay the high prices of the cruisers.
a great way to see the city is from above and one of the greatest viewpoints is the Galata Tower. The Tower was built in 1348 and was originally called the Tower of Christ. Ascend to the top and benefit from the view from the 360 degree viewing gallery. If a moonlit view is your preference there are numerous rooftop bars, clubs and restaurants in Istanbul including some in many of the most effective Istanbul hotels.
I have only touched on the possibilities which are open to you and along with sampling the Turkish that is wonderful cuisine steaming in a hamam, watching the Whirling Dervishes dance and shopping in the Grand Bazaar this city provides something to suit everyone.
